It was a big night for Labor-backed candidates in state legislative races in Washington. Most candidates endorsed by the State Labor Council were in the lead after Tuesday’s elections and Wednesday’s ballot counts, except for State Rep. Edwin Obras of the 33rd Legislative District, trailing by less than 200 votes as of the November 5th ballot drops.

One of the biggest races to watch was State Sen. Deb Krishnadasan running to retain her seat in the 26th LD (South Kitsap County, Gig Harbor), where almost $4 million dollars was spent by both candidates and outside groups on the race. Labor groups backed Sen. Krishnadasan, and she currently is leading by a couple thousand votes.

Also passing is SJR 8201, a union-supported ballot measure that will strengthen the financial health of the state’s Washington Cares Fund, allowing the state’s long term care fund to grow through prudent investment.
