PROTECTION through OUR CONTRACT

In many workplaces, employees are told that certain decisions are simply management’s choice. Scheduling practices, discipline procedures, or workplace policies may appear to be determined entirely by supervisors. But in union workplaces, many of these decisions are governed by a contract negotiated between workers and management.

A union contract is a binding agreement that establishes workplace rules both sides must follow.

These agreements often address issues such as wages, scheduling, job classifications, discipline procedures, and how disputes are resolved. Once these rules are in place, they generally cannot be changed without negotiation.

This means many workplace decisions are not purely managerial choices. They are decisions shaped by agreements workers helped negotiate. Understanding the contract helps workers understand how their workplace operates and what standards apply.

The contract defines the rules management must follow.
