WPEA is facing a budget shortfall that could lead to cuts that will inevitably affect Pierce’s members in the long run. The landmark Janus v. AFSCME in 2018 has continued to negatively impact the budget. If you want to maintain the privilege of having a Union, we need more dues paying members, period.

Your Collective Bargaining team fought hard this year to get us the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) we deserve. The Office of Financial Management and the state continue to refuse pay increases that reflect the economic climate. There is more power in numbers and involvement, and we encourage you to make your voice heard.
Put your money where your mouth is.
We will be receiving our 5% COLA for the upcoming year, as well as the backpay to make up for the 3% COLA we should have gotten last year. This could be your perfect opportunity to invest in the future of your Union. Talk to your coworkers at Pierce. Talk to your friends and colleagues at other WPEA colleges: “Are you paying dues to WPEA?”
Dues keep the Union operating. It pays salary for our reps that support us with issues in our workplace, sit at the bargaining tables to negotiate contracts on our behalf, assure we endorse and elect candidates that are pro-union, and make sure the state legislature funds our contracts. Less reps means less capacity to provide this support.
