Multi-Factor Authentication Changes
IT Leadership recently announced changes to the multi-factor authentication options for employees. Text messaging will be removed as an option leaving the Okta Verify, Google Authenticator, or Microsoft Authenticator phone applications; or the physical Yubikey biometric token as options to sign-in.
The Union strongly recommends against using personal devices for work activity including using your phone for the multi-factor authentication process. Documents and records created for work activity on personal devices are subject to public records requests. And while signing-in on your phone may not create a lot of records, we do not want to set a precedent of personal device use becoming more common for members in order to do their work.
We are encouraging members to reach out to the IT help desk to order the physical Yubikey token.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the update to the multi-factor authentication process, please reach out toyour Clark College WPEA Steward Leadership Team at clarkleadershipteam@wpea.org .
Secretary Classification Series Update
The Clark College WPEA Steward Leadership Team recently learned that the college will be pausing the reallocation process for members who are currently classified in the Secretary series. From the OFM lead at the Higher Ed bargaining table, Inti Tapia:
“The guidance OFM has given though is that these classifications in WPEA BU’s (bargaining units) are not being abolished. This has been discussed in current negotiations.”
This guidance was not communicated to WPEA, only to college management teams who recently shared this update with impacted members. As we learn more about the potential changes to this class series, we will share with membership.
