LMCC = Labor and Management Communication Committee
The committee discussed several concerns related to budget transparency, staffing, and workplace issues affecting Classified staff. Members emphasized that in 2025 Classified employees were not adequately informed about program viability and financial data. Frances will begin sharing this information with Classified/LMCC moving forward. The college aims to balance the budget by the end of May. Concerns were also raised about leadership decisions, including the replacement of Classified roles with exempt positions and leadership COLA increases during a budget deficit. Members noted frustration with the lack of advance communication regarding the dissolution of the School of Business and Technology.
At the Early Learning Center (ELC), Classified staff participation in professional development remains limited. Questions were raised about scheduling required certifications during PD days rather than campus closure periods. A denied sick leave request for an ELC employee is under HR review, and if unresolved, the union may file a grievance.
Payroll and OFM are working to determine the timeline for contract backpay and supervisor training on the new WPEA contract. Employees laid off in December 2025 will still receive backpay, if eligible.
Additional topics included concerns about a legislative proposal that could remove an SBCTC school, holiday pay for part-time Classified staff, food service staffing and operations, vacancy reporting transparency, and ensuring vacant positions do not result in excessive workload for remaining staff.
