Lawsuit Hearing – Pending Decision

We wanted to provide an update on today’s important court hearing regarding the preliminary injunction to compel the state to bargain in good faith.

Strong Member Presence We had an incredible show of solidarity with numerous members attending in person at the courtroom and over 100 observers on Zoom. Your presence sent a powerful message about the importance of this issue to our union and reinforced our collective strength.

Arguments Presented During the hearing, we emphasized the state’s refusal to negotiate a contract for the first year of the upcoming biennium and their intent to restart from scratch. We clearly demonstrated how these actions violate collective bargaining laws. The state claimed they are bargaining in good faith, but we presented solid evidence to counter their arguments, including examples of bad faith and regressive practices.

No Ruling Yet As of now, the judge has not issued a ruling. While they initially indicated a decision would likely come later today, we have not yet received it. We understand this delay is frustrating, but we remain vigilant and ready to share updates as soon as the ruling is announced.

Thank you to everyone who showed up or tuned in to support this critical effort. Your participation reminds us why we continue to fight for fair treatment and respect for all of our members.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

In solidarity,
Washington Public Employees Association
