Changes are being made. Coworkers are asking questions. Problems are being noticed. Wins are happening. But when workers do not share what they know, each person is left to experience the workplace alone.
Communication is how individual experiences become shared knowledge, which is where collective power begins.

One person can start the conversation
You don’t need to have every answer. You don’t need to already have a campaign, committee, or even a complete plan.
You may be the first person to notice that a policy is affecting several employees. You may know about a workplace change that coworkers on another shift have not heard about. You may have a recent win, an upcoming meeting, or a question that other employees are also asking.
Sharing that information gives coworkers an opportunity to recognize patterns, discuss what is happening, and decide together what should happen next.
A post on your union website does not create collective power by itself. But what it does do, is it helps workers find one another so they can use the power they already have.
What stewards can do
Trained stewards can:
- Share workplace news, concerns, and member victories
- Upload photos and documents
- Submit bargaining updates when they represent or observe their bargaining table
- Create meetings, trainings, and other events for representative approval
- Start conversations directly on each post
- Share public updates into member Discord channels for deeper discussion
The website gives workers a public voice. Discord provides a more private space for members to discuss an update, ask questions, and organize around what is happening.
You do not have to be an experienced writer
New stewards submit their posts to their WPEA representative for review. Your representative can approve the post or help correct anything that needs clarification.
As you gain experience, your representative may give you the ability to publish workplace posts directly. Events continue to receive approval so that scheduling conflicts can be avoided across the union.
The important part is not writing a perfect article. The important part is making workplace conditions and information visible.

A concern, change, question, victory, or opportunity affects your workplace.
Share it
A steward publishes an update so coworkers can see what is happening.
Discuss it
Workers respond publicly or continue the conversation in a member Discord channel.
Organize around it
Coworkers identify a shared concern and decide what they want to do together.
Take action
Workers meet, communicate, file a grievance, attend bargaining, plan an event, or take another collective step.

A WPEA member?
Steward training takes approximately three hours and is offered every month.
When the regular training schedule does not work, WPEA representatives can arrange additional training dates for your workplace or group.
Completing steward training gives you access to begin submitting posts, photos, documents, and events.
Not a member yet?
Website publishing access is part of the steward program and is available to WPEA members.
Join your coworkers, complete steward training, and help your workplace communicate and organize.

Silence keeps workers isolated. Communication brings them together.
