We wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the very unfortunate actions taken at the Board Meeting, January 26, 2026. The Board of Trustees removed “equity” and “equitable access” from our Mission, Vision, Values Statement as well as inserted language that subverts the library’s core value of intellectual freedom, a basic right in a democratic society, through the guise of parental rights.

Many of you have expressed your concerns and asked what you can do. Your steward team has been hard at work with AFSCME’s Leadership team to craft a joint statement and plan of action in response to this. They are nearly complete. We will share these materials in the coming days, and go over them at our Virtual Member Meeting this Friday at 6:30.

In the meantime, please plan to join us and our community at the next Board Meeting, Tuesday February 17 @ 6pm outside the Cascade Park branch in protesting the Board’s actions, and our call to remove and replace these board members. In addition to fighting for equity and intellectual freedom, signs should support our messaging to “Build a Better Board!”

We hope to see you Friday to share all the details!
